Northumbria Salmon Action Plan Reviews

In 1997 and 1998 the Environment Agency in Northumbria produced action plans to help manage salmon stocks in the area. Three Salmon Action Plans were produced for the rivers Coquet, Tyne and Wear.

These plans were originally work plans for the following five years with a review period of between 5 and 10 years. All of the areas plans are now due for review and consultation.

The rivers Tyne, Wear and Coquet have consistently performed well in recent years as measured by Salmon catch with the Tyne consistently recording the best salmon catches in England and Wales. However issues of concern still remain that may limit the extent of salmon production. Factors such as obstructions to fish movement, climate change, predation and water quality are all potential causes of concern.

To help the Agency identify and quantify the main areas of concern for salmon on the Coquet, Tyne and Wear, we developed a web based questionnaire which is now closed. The results of the questionnaire will help local Agency officers to review the Salmon Action Plans in Northumbria.

The following draft Salmon Action Plan Review documents are available for download in PDF1 format:
